Coast trip

26 January, 2010

Was down at the coast near Batemans Bay this long weekend for some R&R. Unfortunately Jenny had to return to Canberra for work yesterday but I stayed down there for the four days.

Was nice to get away after a mildly stressful week at work and do some reading, practice my drawing. I didn’t accomplish anywhere near as much as I hoped although I got distracted by an urge to clean the beach house and spent a good 5 hours working on the kitchen cleaning out the pantry (where I found a few items that expired in 1999).

Plus I managed to churn out another chapter for the My Exodus blog.

The weekend didn’t turn out to be the “get away and think/meditate” that I had previously hoped for – if four days isn’t enough to get my act together and do then I don’t know what it’ll take but I’m still hoping to do that at some point to try and draw down these vague ideas floating around in the top of my head.

At least I made significant progress towards finishing Cryptonomicon, a book that I nearly gave up on reading around the hundredth page but was urged to push on with – glad I did because it got a lot better … nearly at page 800.

Looking for a band

22 January, 2010

My band The Camals has pretty much disbanded, at least for the next 6 months so I’m looking around for another local band to join. I play keyboard/piano/synths, drums/percussion and bass guitar.

New blog: Lounge Sessions

22 January, 2010

After trashing my purecaffeine.com blog mid last year and replacing it with a blog focussed on user experience design, social media and Government 2.0 I lost a place to post random thoughts about the web industry in general, work, the various projects I’m involved with, photography, cooking, philosophy, religion … so I created a Tumblr blog.

I hardly used it – it didn’t support comments natively and plugging in Disqus kinda sucked, so I ended up neglecting it.

I was sitting here tonight thinking about thinking and I couldn’t get my head around any topic in particular – some people suggested just writing stuff; but I don’t have a place for that. Except my other secret blog, which I’ve also since neglected.

So I’ve created yet another space to share other ideas and thoughts that don’t fit in my other blogs, to replace my Tumblr blog.

New blog: My Exodus

16 January, 2010

I launched my new blog My Exodus about my experiences growing up in a religious cult and the story of how I finally left in June 2008 and the journey of recovery. I hope to follow up the blog with a book which I’ll start writing later in the year.
